Sunday was an insane day! I'm on the road with Sebastian Bach. We are in South America playing the support slot on the Guns N' Roses tour. Had a great show on Saturday night in São Paulo, Brazil, got a few hours of sleep, and then jumped on a plane to Rio de Janeiro on a nice sunny afternoon. When we landed at the Rio airport we were shuttled straight to soundcheck for the Sunday night show at the Praça da Apoteose. A huge stadium! Upon our arrival, we were told that during the night the driver of the truck carrying the Sebastian Bach band equipment had an accident while traveling through the mountainous roads. The truck crashed and its metal framing was peeled wide open thus leaving our equipment scattered all over the area. Another truck was then sent to pick up the gear but we had no idea about any damages to the equipment inside - and there was no guarantee that all the items would be accounted for. Most of the larger items were rental gear (drums, amps, cabinets, etc.) but also in the truck were our personal items (guitars, pedal boards, cymbals, etc.). When the truck arrived at the venue, we anxiously watched as it was being unloaded. There were plenty sighs of relief when most of our personal pieces came out unscathed but there was also some cases damaged and a couple very important pieces lost, too. One very cool thing: Even before our equipment started to come out, the GN'R crew and band members quickly stepped up and told us that they would get us anything we needed to perform if any of our stuff was damaged or missing. For me, all was good except for one of the (rental) kick drums. It was completely trashed and in 4 pieces! So I went back to the dressing room, ate some lunch, and got my video camera to take some footage of the mangled kick drum. Then it started to rain, and as they say, when it rains it pours (click HERE to watch video footage!) - literally! As the winds picked up, pieces of the stage started to come down and crash to the ground right in front of our eyes! Never seen anything like it! Good thing the crowd had not been allowed in yet or things could've turned tragic. Needless to say, there was no show in Rio after that. Be safe out there, y'all.............
